We care about people, we engage with them through service, and together we strive for transformed lives and communities where health, wholeness, and justice abound.

Service Living was launched in the Fall of ’09 in a collaborative effort between Good Works, Inc.,  the Ohio University, and the communities of greater Athens county as a means of connecting first year college students with the people of Southeast Ohio through immersive service opportunities. We strive to embody an attitude of humility as we interact with one another, realizing that each person has potential to serve as both teacher and student for others.   As we listen to the lives and desires of others, as we participate in life with them, we are more able to understand the people and the place we are planted in.  As we spend time with others in different life situations, we are able to learn what their desires are and the gifts that they have to offer to the world.  Once we have listened and learned from each other, we can begin to imagine new possibilities for our collective community.  Students and community partners are invited to collaborate in their dreaming, to propose projects, and to carry them out in the local community (do).
